reign of 33 years, herod the great dies. herod the great couldn t get the praise of his people but the praise of his people was never enough to actually satisfy him. he left behind him a greatly res restored city, a beautiful temple mount, a more prosperous country. but he died in madness, in grief, in resentment, and in rage. none of herod s successors are the same man that herod was. none of them are able to exert the same level of control that herod had. and so, in the end, the romans just annex the territory. and they ruled it through brutal procurators who were extremely corrupt and tormented the jews into rebelling and to punish the jewish people, they destroyed jerusalem entirely in 70 a.d. the temple was destroyed.
