Capitol hill tampering expectations, admitting the tech team faces an uphill battle to meet its end of the month deadline to fix the health care site. But the problems go beyond the glitches. The president s broken promise if you like your plan, you can keep it, continues to haunt the white house. Id just like to ask you a simple true or false question. Is that statement on the white house website true or is it false . Sir, i think the statement is is it true or is it false . And good day, everyone. Im Kristen Welker in for andrea mitchell. Both republicans and democrats woke up this morning with a win to brag about, but what do the victories by Chris Christie and Terry Mcauliffe mean for political battles around the corner . Joining me now for our daily fix, Chris Cillizza and Washington Post editorial columnist ruth marcus. Thanks to all of you for being here this afternoon. Chris, i want to start with you with the big takeaways. You had Chris Christie, mcauliffe winning last night.
group americans united for change is out with an ad attacking republicans who refuse to support extending benefits as part of the budget deal reached this month. you know who had a merry christmas? the richest 1%, that s who. republicans in congress made sure of that, protecting billions in taxpayer giveaways. for those facing tough times, republicans stripped 1.3 million americans of jobless benefits, folks who want to work, but cannot find a job. kicking them to the curb during christmas. joining me to break it down two of my favorites, casey hunt and cnbc contributor ron insana. happy holidays. i m honored, brien. i know when casey gets a haircut, too. i want to start with you, casey, senators proposing a bipartisan deal, $6 billion proposal restore benefits retroactively, while buying legislators time to work out a longer extension. january 6th probably when this will happen. from your reporting, it seems that this is going to be a tough sell. what are the chanc
0 numbers, especially with parts of the voting electorate that no other republican can really touch and say, okay, you might not really like everything about me, but at least i can win. there s a big difference between being a bush and a christie. you know, he s got a ways to go. essentially, it s a sort of george bush model wl a dose of bill clinton populism. that s an interesting point. i ll be with you until the last dog dies. here s governor christie really embracing my role is to help this state recover from sandy. that s a pretty powerful message. you just ticked off both bush and clinton. that s okay. i can cope with it. i want to delve back into virginia. social issues, ruth, were obviously a big factor here. 20% of voters said abortion was their number one issue. mcauliffe really trounsed cuccinelli when it came to women voters. have republicans not learned the lessons yet of 2012, which is that you need women voters to win and that women voters care about these is
0 years without mitt romney ever having to really explain what he would do going forward. the only thing i can think is that the president was told first and foremost play it safe. don t make any big mistakes. don t do anything big that shows up in an attack ad. you can t do that in politics. you can t show up afraid of making a mistake. you can t play it safe. you have to be on the offense and win the day. the one thing i will say for mitt romney and for the republican party is last night mitt romney very aggressively moved to the center. finally seemed to commit to i am a centrist. i support very closely to where obama is. just slight differences. i think it s an acknowledgment that he really can t run on the far right policies that the republican party has been pushing. it took until now with the republican party sort of staring over the abyss at a potential loss before they would give him that permission to move to the center. i think you re right, but i that stuff is in your mem
who claimed to be mitt romney. he said that he doesn t even know that there s such laws that encourage outsourcing, never heard of them. he said if it s true, he must need a new accountant. we know for sure it was not the real mitt romney, because he seems to be doing just fine with his current accountant. thank goodness somebody is finally getting tough on big bird. it s about time. that guy s a winner. mitt romney joining paul ryan this evening in my home state of virginia, but which mitt will show up? the mitt who won the debate by putting the president on the defensive, spoke directly to voters and there was a moment or two of humor. will we see the same mitt on the trail for the past 16 months. you be the judge. here he is stopping by a colorado cpac meeting before leaving denver. last night i thought was a great fuopportunity for the american people to see two different visions for the country. i think it was helpful to be able to describe those visions. i saw the p
