Major restoration of historic Inverkeithing town centre starts in earnest

Major restoration of historic Inverkeithing town centre starts in earnest © DC Thomson The first of a series of major urban realm improvements have started in Inverkeithing. A major refurbishment of Inverkeithing town centre which will make it “fit for the 21st century” has begun in earnest. The immediate area around the Civic Centre on Queen Street, which forms part of the setting for the historic Friary building, is being upgraded thanks to £200,000 from the Scottish Government’s Town Centre Fund. The work will trigger a wider Inverkeithing Heritage Regeneration project scheduled to start later this year which also includes major improvements to the High Street and central conservation area, as well as a £475,000 restoration of the historic category A-listed Town House.

Restoration to begin on Inverkeithing Town House thanks to huge grant

VISIONARY plans to make Inverkeithing Town Hall House fit for the 21st century can now become a reality thanks to nearly half a million pounds of funding. The A-listed building will be transformed into a vibrant new community hub thanks to a generous £475,000 grant to Fife Council from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund. It s hoped that the transformation of the at-risk civic landmark into an active hub for Inverkeithing will be the perfect location for anything from film nights to exercise classes but will continue to offer space to established groups like the community council and Inverkeithing Local History Society.
