Regina s Heritage neighbourhood home to city s third community fridge

The other two fridges are filled and emptied several times a day, Sara Maria Daubisse, a volunteer with the 12th Avenue fridge.  Food insecurity is already a problem in Canada and Regina. And with the pandemic, it s just been made worse. There s so many people that are hungry and the need isn t filled yet. So definitely we needed another fridge, another way of feeding people so that they don t go hungry. Anyone can access the fridge to grab free food and toiletries and anyone can donate. Opening day was busy with people who spotted the fridge when passing by Carmichael Outreach, a non-profit that helps people who deal with poverty and homelessness.

Regina s 3rd community fridge opens in Heritage neighbourhood

REGINA Regina’s third community fridge opened in the Heritage neighbourhood on Wednesday morning. The community fridge is a small structure housing free food in a fridge, freezer and pantry. The food is available to anyone who needs it, 24-hours a day. It is located at 1510 12th Avenue, in the alley next to Carmichael Outreach. “There’s definitely food insecurity in Regina, like all across North America. People don’t have access to affordable food, to healthy food,” Sara Maria Daubisse, a volunteer with Regina Community Fridge 12th Avenue, said. There are two other community fridges in Regina, one in the Cathedral neighbourhood and one in North Central. Daubisse said they are ‘filled and used every day.’
