After a successful trial at Kenwood House in north London, which is also managed by English Heritage, the partnership project with Ecclesiastical Insurance will be extended nine properties, including Queen Victoria and Prince Albert s former holiday home. Dozens of tiny sensors are to be installed inside, to monitor environmental changes within the building. Battery-powered, they send live real-time data, helping identify issues that might affect the priceless historic collection. English Heritage’s annual budget for maintaining its buildings is around £15 million.
