He says 2000 rooms are needed and hes encouraging the community to open up their homes if possible to survivors. More than 1000 structures were destroyed across the island, and the governor says it will cost billions of dollars to restore what is lost. It is going to take many years to rebuild lahaina. When you see the full the full extent of the destruction of lahaina, it will shock you. It does appear like a bomb and fire went off. If i may. And all of those buildings virtually are going to have to be rebuilt. It will be a new lahaina. Right now, there is no water and no power on the west side of the island. Search and rescue crews are moving into lahaina to look for survivors and any additional victims. We are going to try our very best to identify those that have perished so that the families can have that closure and can have that understanding. Committee met for a second day to examine and consider amendments to the bill. The committee will come to order. The purpose of this afternoon session is to discuss the details of the chairmans mark. We are not here to speculate about items that may or may not end up in the house will. We are not here to debate items that are not currently part of the chairmans mark. As of now there is no official or final version of the modification. So i made clear this morning we are still working to finalize the details of the modification. When that work is done, the details will be provided to the committee with ample time to go through them and after that, most likely tomorrow morning we will have another walkthrough that gives members an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about the modification. Commissioner hyland not to belabor this but i would say i appreciate your comments commissioner pearlman but for me this building is actually really small eeben in relation to the other buildsings that were built in the neighborhood and i would propose or support the landmarking of just because of that and the development that is happening all over south of market and the scale that is coming up out of the ground, i think it is important to actually recognize this particular building because it isnt 2 stories. Any otheri would actually concur with commissioner pearlman. I thank you for your comment and i recognize that the historic importance of the building but do feel it is well protected in the conservation district and could have amended that to include a part of this report so i do agree.
