Construction projects begin Monday around area

Several construction projects start Monday on area streets. One day projects include maintenance work on sanitary sewers on Grant Wood Street south of Gleason Avenue and Grant Wood Drive. Also they’ll be doing water main repairs on Bloomington Street between Dodge and Lucas streets all day today, causing lanes of traffic to be shifted. And in Cedar Rapids, southbound traffic on Edgewood Road Southwest will be down to one lane between Westdale Drive and 33 rd Avenue for utility work. Other projects starting today include East Jefferson Street, reduced to one lane of alternating traffic between Clapp Street and Parsons Avenue while work is being done on sanitary sewers. That project should be wrapped up by end of day Wednesday.

Iowa DOT to close ramp at I-80/Herbert Hoover Highway exit starting April 12th

4/3/21 An interchange improvement project will close the entrance ramp to westbound I-80 from Herbert Hoover Highway starting April 12 th. The project includes a new configuration of ramps with roundabouts and a new bridge over Interstate 80 at exit 249. Work will require the closing of the entrance ramp to westbound I-80 from 6 a.m. Monday, April 12, to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, weather permitting. That’s according to the Iowa Department of Transportation. During the closure, traffic will access westbound I-80 at the South Downey Street/West Branch interchange (see map). Underage West Branch man arrested for OWI

02/15/21 An underage West Branch man reportedly found in a ditch early Sunday was arrested for OWI. According to police, they came upon 18-year-old Andrew Kloss of Sagert Drive just after 1:30am in a Kia Optima that had ended up in a ditch near the area of Herbert Hoover Highway and Taft Avenue. His tires were still spinning when they made contact with him. Kloss reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, looked spaced out, and had a strong odor of ingested alcohol. Police say Kloss admitted to drinking earlier in the evening, and produced an ID that made him appear to be 21 years old. A PBT yielded a blood-alcohol level of .200, and a Datamaster came up at .181. Kloss also allegedly had an unopened mini-bottle of vodka in his pants pocket.
