The changes include 500m of Hunter Rd and 500m of Blind Creek Rd reducing from 80kmh to 60kmh. Campbells Rd and Cotterill St had reduced from 100kmh to 40kmh. Speeds on several other roads across the region had also been reduced, including in Blenheim and Picton. The new speed limits were the result of amendments to the existing council bylaw following the Local Road Speed Limits bylaw review. Tua Marina pupil Henry Nott, 10, said it was great the speed limit had changed, because it was less dangerous. “When it is in school hours, people can go quite fast. It can be dangerous,” Henry said.
