Built in 1834 to accommodate annual July-September sessions of the Virginia Supreme Court, control of the Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Law Library in Lewisburg was deemed important enough to justify a battle that killed 46 men and wounded 254 others during the Civil War.
Today, the 190-year-old two-story brick building is considered of sufficient historical significance to undertake a three-year, $1 million effort to restore it to its original condition and configuration.
