THE GENERALIZED PERCEPTION IN THE LIBERIAN SOCIETY
Blind (Visually Impaired) Henry Kpadeh surviving on his musical talent
In Liberia, when you are disabled visually impaired (blind) or move in wheelchair or with crutches (or move on your knees because you don’t have wheelchair) majority of the non-disabled people feel you can’t make any impactful contribution to the development of the Country. On your survival, the same people (the majority) feel only “begging” is appropriate for you because you “can’t work” (their perception)
You will meet Henry Kpadehâborn on November 3, 1977âsitting on a wooden or concrete object in one of these two areas: in a general market ground or few yards from the entrance of a Governmentâs Ministry or Agency.
On Saturday, March 6, 2021, this writer met 44-year-old Henry at the intersection of Benson and Johnson Streets, striking the chords of his guitar, accompanied by his sonorous voice. The writer was passing but hooked by the lyrics of the song and the rhythmic sounds from the guitar.
âWhat Iâm doing is technically called public entertainment. And the song Iâm singing is my personal production entitled âGod Hasnât Given Up On You Yet,â the visually impaired musician responded to the writerâs second and third questions, after the writerâs self-introduction of his profession and mention of the main focus on his professional backgroundââreporting on peopleâs talents or innovations for nation-building.â
