The Public Service Systems Review Taskforce convened in Lilongwe on Friday to review progress of its work with a promise that is ready to produce a comprehensive recommendation report to President Chakwera with 90 days as mandated.
Chilima arrives for a meeting os a special task force to comprehensively review systems of allowances, procurement and employment contracts which have over the years been conduits of looting public funds.

A statement issued after the meeting from 9 am to 7 pm, said the 14-member Civil Service Comprehensive Review Task Force, to be led by Vice-President Saulos Chilima, who is also Minister responsible for Economic Planning and Development and Public Sector Reforms, would also not hesitate to report and recommend to President Lazarus Chakwe

The Public Service Systems Review Taskforce which government announced last week Friday has rolled into action and held its first meeting in Lilongwe on Thursday to roll out its work to comprehensively review systems of allowances, procurement and employment contracts which have over the years been conduits of looting public funds.

The first step is to have a conference with all controlling officers. Let them give you allowance structure for their departments or agencies and from their you can work out something. Allowances in government is a very contentious issue and people can even cast a spell on you for stopping payment of allowances. The best way to go is reduce number of civil servants and those who will remain pay them good salaries.

Following the directive by President Lazarus Chakwera, on 14th February 2021, that Vice President Saulos Chilima must form and lead a special taskforce to comprehensively review the three government systems of allowances, procurement, and employment contracts, a 14-member taskforce to carry out the assignment has been formed.
According to a statement signed by Press officer for the Veep, Pilirani Phiri, the taskforce, to be chaired by Chilima who is also Minister responsible for Economic Planning and Development and Public Sector Reforms, will submit its recommendations to Chakwera within 90 days.
The taskforce will hold its first meeting on Thursday, 25th February 2021 to agree on the procedures including an action plan with clear timelines.
