A violent incident on Tuesday caused the abrupt shutdown of governmental offices in Bayou La Batre and reportedly left a magistrate injured.
The city posted a notice around noon that city hall and the court office had been closed effective immediately and would remain closed until further notice. Municipal court hearings were postponed, with rescheduling information to be released later.
According to a report on NBC affiliate WPMI-TV15, Mayor Henry Barnes said that a man had attacked three city workers. City Magistrate Marcia Barnes, the mayor’s wife, was injured and required stitches in her leg, Barnes told the station.
