In the debate about the parliamentary inquiry into gas extraction in Groningen, Prime Minister Mark Rutte clashed several times with opposition parties. There was several squabbles about the extent to which the Cabinet can be blamed for deciding against reducing the amount of natural gas that was extracted in 2013 following the severe earthquake near the village of Huizinge in 2012. The prime minister was urged to explain why he did not intervene, as a result of which gas extraction remained high for a long time despite the frequent earthquakes hitting the region.

Greater emphasis on architecture needed in new housing construction, MP says

PvdA MP Henk Nijboer called for a clear focus on architecture to be part of the Cabinet’s ambitious construction plan, which aims to build roughly 900,000 new homes in the Netherlands by 2030. Nijboer emphasized during a parliamentary debate on spatial planning in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of the Dutch parliament, that some of these homes should showcase "spectacular new architecture and bring renewal."
