One injured in three-vehicle accident in Henderson County

One person was extracted from a vehicle and received minor injuries after a three-vehicle accident this week in Henderson County. According to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, deputies and Hancock/Henderson 911 reported to the scene of an accident along US Highway 34 at 850th East. Deputies arrived finding that the eastbound lane was blocked by the accident. Traffic was stopped for scene safety for first responders. Gladstone and Biggsville Fire Department personnel extracted a person from a vehicle and they were transported to Southeast Iowa Medical by the Burlington Fire Department. The Illinois State Police are handling the accident. Also assisting at the scene were the Dallas City and Burlington Police Departments, DesMoines County Sheriff's Office, and Berg's Towing.

Biggsville man arrested on drugs charges and warrants

A Biggsville man sits in the Henderson County Jail awaiting a first court appearance after his arrest over the weekend on warrants and for new drug charges. According to Chief Deputy Matthew Link of the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, 36-year-old Brandon Buchanan was arrested Saturday at around 5:30 in the evening. Buchanan was located in Biggsville after information was received that he was wanted on warrants out of McDonough County in Illinois and Des Moines County in Iowa. During the arrest, he was searched and allegedly found in his possession was less than five grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. His warrant in McDonough County is for possession of a controlled substance, a $7,500 10 percent bond. And in Des Moines County for violation of probation. a $10,000 full amount bond.

Iowa man arrested for battering officer and meth possession in Henderson County

An Iowa man was arrested in Henderson County after battering a sheriff's deputy. 37-year-old Spencer W. Bright of Fairfield was taken into custody after resisting arrest, causing deputies to use a taser on him. Henderson County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene of a suspicious male subject walking southbound on Illinois Route 522, near US Route 34 in Gladstone Township. Chief Deputy Matthew Link says that a deputy located Bright and he was identified as having an active McDonough County warrant. After he was tased and secured, deputies located Methamphetamine on him. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and released before he was taken to the Henderson County Jail. He was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, possession of meth, and resisting a police officer. One deputy received minor injuries and was treated and released from a hospital. Assisting the sheriff's department was the Illinois State Police.

No injuries after school bus struck by car in Henderson County

No injuries were reported and one driver was cited after a school bus loaded with students was struck by a vehicle in Henderson County. According to Chief Deputy Matthew Link at around 7:42 on Friday, a Buick Park Avenue driven by 42-year-old Michael R. Russell of Qquawka was westbound on Illinois Route 164 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the driver's side tire of a West Central School District Bus. The 2022 Thomas School Bus was transporting 37 students and its driver at the time of the crash. Both vehicles sustained major damage. No injuries were reported and all the students were evaluated by Emergency Medical crews that arrived on the scene. Russell was issued two citations, one for improper lane usage and the other for no insurance on a motor vehicle. Assisting agencies included the Oquawka, Biggsville, Stronghurst, and Burlington ambulance services, as well as the Oquawka and Gladstone fire departments as well as Berg's Towing.

Burlington, Iowa, man arrested on warrants and DUI in Henderson County

A Burlington, Iowa, felon was arrested in Henderson County on warrants out of Iowa and for Aggravated DUI. According to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, 35-year-old Bernard S. Duffy was arrested after being pulled over along US Highway 34, near 700 East, for a minor traffic violation at around 2:16 Tuesday morning. The diver was identified and outstanding warrants were discovered. Duffy had recently been featured on the Burlington Iowa Area Crime Stoppers Facebook page for warrants of Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Willful Injury, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon. He was subsequently charged with Aggravate Driving Under the Influence, a charge that carries no bond, and housed in the Henderson County Jail awaiting bond and extradition hearings.
