New Delhi, May 17 : India s participation in this month s Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai looks doubtful as its 20-member team hasn t got the visas, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) secretary said on Monday.
The competition is scheduled to start on May 21. The Indian team includes 10 women boxers. The Indian men and women s boxing teams haven t got visas to travel to Dubai. We are, however, trying our level best to send the teams, BFI secretary Hemanta Kalita told IANS.

New Delhi, May 15 : Half of 10-member women s team is doubtful to compete at the Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai starting May 21 after strict Covid-19 protocols at Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune didn t let them join the ongoing national camp.
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) had planned collective training for the 10-member squad at ASI ahead of the tournament.
However, ASI has allowed boxers to join only in batches. While five, including MC Mary Kom, had joined till Friday, the remaining five had been allowed to move into ASI only next week.

The training camp for India s Tokyo-bound women boxers has been shifted from coronavirus-plagued New Delhi to the western city of Pune as the country chases its best Olympic performance ever later this year in the Japanese capital.
Their Delhi camp was disrupted last month when 21 athletes and coaches tested positive for COVID-19, though they did not include any of the country s Olympic-qualified boxers. With a surge in COVID-19 cases, the decision was taken to shift the camp to Pune, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Pune, May 5 : Six-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medallist boxer MC Mary Kom along with two other Olympic-bound pugilists Simranjit Kaur (60kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) have been named in the elite women s national camp that will start soon.
A total of 10 women boxers will resume training at the Army Sports Institute (ASI) here, following a decision to shift the camp from Patiala to a more secure environment in Pune, considering the raging Covid-19 pandemic.
