6:33 p.m.: Sacramento stays in red tier while Amador and Sutter improve
A few counties in Northern California have moved into less-restrictive tiers in the state s reopening system based on their COVID-19 positivity test rates.
Amador, Glenn and Sutter Counties have moved from the second-most restrictive red tier to the orange tier. Mendocino County has moved from orange to yellow.
Sacramento County, with a case rate of 8.4 per 100,000, has been in the red tier since March 15.
People in Placer County who need help catching up on rent or utility payments have less than a week left to apply for assistance. Officials are urging people to not miss out on the opportunity for this free program. Residents have to apply by Friday, April 30. There is nothing to be ashamed of. The pandemic has been a challenging and difficult time for a lot of folks, said Katie Combs-Prichard, spokesperson for Placer County Health and Human Services. We have seen folks who have experienced hardship that, you know, they may not be used to that kind of experience, and there are programs available and nonjudgmental. More than 1,000 people have already applied, but more funds are up for grabs after the federal government opened the program up to more families who initially didn t qualify.
