We re living in a new golden age of performance pickup trucks, but it s not the first one. The Hellcat-powered Ram TRX was preceded not just by the concept from a few years back but also the SRT-10 truck. 5 photos
It s easy to understand why so many Dodge and muscle car fans obsess over the SRT-10, even though it s only a footnote in the history of Rams. After all, naturally aspirated V10s are currently only found in the Lamborghini Huracan and its Audi sister car.
In the crazy month of January 2002, Dodge introduced a preview concept at the Detroit Auto Show, with the first production model ready by November 2003. It s worth knowing that the SRT division didn t even exist until the following year. Before that, it was known as SVE (Special Vehicle Engineering) or PVO (Performance Vehicle Operations). Basically, these were the engineers who made the Viper and the Prowler.
The off-road madness continues.
Ford recently confirmed F-150 production has been hit by the semiconductor chip shortage. However, that s not the case for the all-new Ford F-150 Raptor. No, the off-road beast remains immune for now and that means production will get underway shortly. When, exactly?
According to just-published information uncovered by BlueOvalForums, both the new Raptor and F-150 Tremor are slated to begin production on July 6. Some early production has already taken place but these are predominantly press vehicles rather than examples sent to dealerships. Assuming all goes to plan, the first Raptors should be making their way to customers in late summer or early fall.
2021 Ram TRX Hits The Dyno Before Hennessey Puts It Under The Knife
Feb 27, 2021 at 8:54am ET ++ There s a massive loss through the drivetrain, but understandable in a truck.
As it stands, the 2021 Ram TRX is the most powerful bone-stock truck coming from the factory without the need for electrification. The Hellcat-powered Ram 1500 makes use of its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 to churn out up to 702 horsepower (523 kilowatts) and 650 pound-feet (881 newton-meters). Those numbers are sent to all four wheels but, of course, there will be drivetrain loss, which could affect the numbers if measure at the wheels.
Hennessey aims to discover the output at the wheels, as seen on its latest benchmarking video of the 2021 Ram TRX. Interestingly, the Texas-based tuner only measured the output at the rear wheels (not sure how on the TRX).
