DMX died on Friday (April 9th) at age 50. The rap icon was on life support for one week at New York's White Plains Hospital after suffering a heart attack on April 2nd. He had no brain function after being deprived of oxygen for nearly 30 minutes and brain function never returned. By Thursday (April 8th), his organs began failing and by Friday (April 9th) his family made the decision to take him off of life support. According to XXL, DMX's family released a statement, saying, "We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days." The statement continued, "Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him.
