The La Mesa City Council this week approved a set of bylaws for its Community Police Oversight Board and began the process to hire an independent police auditor to assist the group.
Candidates for the auditor position must apply by April 7. The city expects to choose a finalist on May 11 with a May 12 start date. The Community Police Oversight Board will form a subcommittee to help staff select the individual.
The City Council in late January chose the 11 founding members of the oversight board, and at that time stipulated that as part of its scope, the group would work with an independent police auditor to investigate serious incidents and misconduct complaints involving La Mesa police officers.

When Dianne Jacob arrived on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in 1993, she received a less than warm welcome from the incumbent supervisors and entrenched county bureaucrats.
