he was with a friend, they said, a man wearing a black hat. but they had no idea what his name was. it seemed to be a dead end. but then back at the house the cops were staking out, a big break. a pizza delivery. how many guys you have at that point? probably have ten officers in the helicopter above, and then we had long beach police department helping us with perimeter positions behind the home in case someone fled the house. guns out, ready to hit it like someone that committed a murder s inside. and that someone is sam herr. yes. cops moved in. but sam herr wasn t there. instead, they found him. coming up i open up my door to go outside to see what s going on. and that s when freeze, get on the ground, put your hands behind your back. what did this teenager have to do with a murder? much more than he knew. i trusted him, so i said
it s not as if the helicopter sat down. we know fuel is leaking. this was a crash landing of some sort where all all of these people would have felt it and heard it. hearing the rotors is another matter. helicopters flying over your building is fairly rare. if the police are out searching for a suspect or a car chase, you might see an nypd helicopter above. might be a counter terrorism helicopter above. when you hear it, you notice it. the buildings are so tall that the sound is captured between the buildings. it s all concrete so a helicopter sounds extremely loud when it s above you. this shaking of the building that every one is describing, that would happen in something of a significant crash up there. just the thought of that helicopter, if he missed it or if it overturned or if the rotor clipped something and it propelled that helicopter off
of new blast its and smoke filled which is closer to the entrance of the convention center. and you can see in our shot that smoke in the distance. what we ve also felt is the effects of what feels like cs gas or tear gas. that s people coming from this direction with, you know, runny noses, spraying water in their faces which, would appear to be crowd patrcontrol at this point. we know this particular area has cleared out substantially and the police have moved in in force. they have a helicopter above, we can see the search light. it would make sense. we have been getting reports that most of the counter trump demonstrators had been moving along, minor scuffles but nothing major in items of damage to properties or threat to lives but you can see the police are
i continue to look at these pictures on the streets. we heard from richard engle a couple moments ago describing a fairly chaotic scene when he arrived. gunshots, helicopter above. seeing officers with their weapons drawn. essentially interrogating people there in the streets. we have heard over the past 15 or 20 minutes. according to laura haim, there are two, perhaps three men essentially hold up in an apartment there and the associated press is reporting that it is all connected to the ninth suspect. the ninth suspect we have been hearing so much about over the past 24-plus hours. again, i believe we still have jack with us on the phone.
the suspect continues to plead and then officer bock notices something. i see him reaching toward the gear shift. it happened so fast, i didn t have time to tell him not to do it. he was begging about going to bathroom. next thing we know he was taking off. the hyundai zooms ahead and pulls into traffic. officer bock gives chase. i think he was at that point willing to do anything to get away. he knew he was probably going back to prison which makes it even worse because he has nothing to lose. a police helicopter is deployed and a camera captures the scene from the air. the best point about having the helicopter above, he can tell us traffic left or right, if we re clear which allows us to make it easier. cross traffic to your left and right when you get to 77 both directions. the helicopter helps officer
