Wrongful death suit alleges Belleville nursing home provided negligent care

Nursing home resident allegedly suffered pressure ulcers, infection

Golabek BELLEVILLE A long term care facility is facing allegations that it failed to provide appropriate wound care and caused a patient to suffer from pressure ulcers and infection.  Gail Schimp filed a complaint Feb. 19 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Helia Southbelt Healthcare LLC, Bridgemark Healthcare LLC and Keri Bryer, R.N., alleging violation of the Nursing Home Act and negligence.  Gail Schimp became a resident of Helia Southbelt s long-term care facility on April 10, 2019, according to her suit. She claims that upon admission, Bryer documented that she had a stage II pressure ulcer on her buttock. Schimp alleges that on April 23, 2019, and May 4, 2019, she developed another pressure ulcer which was also documented by Bryer. 

Nursing home, staff sued over patient s alleged death from septic shock

Golabek BELLEVILLE The estate of a woman who allegedly died of septic shock from untreated skin wounds accuses a nursing facility and several of its nursing staff were negligent.  James Davis, as independent administrator of the Estate of Dorothy Davis, filed a complaint (part 2 and part 3) on Jan. 26 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Helia Southbelt Healthcare LLC, doing business as Four Fountains, Bridgemark Healthcare LLC and others, alleging wrongful death.  According to the complaint, Dorothy Davis suffered from dementia, diabetes and other medical issues when she was transferred to Helia Southbelt Healthcare on Feb. 27, 2019. While there, the plaintiff alleges Dorothy Davis was diagnosed with MASD on her buttocks. The suit states that from April 2019 through July 7, 2019, when Dorothy Davis left Helia Southbelt, she received negligent care.
