A local councillor has urged the public to petition the NI Assembly after a recently published programme for government failed to mention death, bereavement or end-of-life care.
The online petition has been launched by Marie Curie, who said there is a growing need for greater palliative care in Nothern Ireland.
“Even before Covid-19, the number of people living and dying with diseases like cancer and dementia was on the rise,” they said.
“Twice as many people are receiving palliative care now than ten years ago, but this falls far short of the growing need from people who die here every year.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council have voted to press ahead with plans to hold an air show in 2022, despite opposition from some nationalist councillors.
The motion, proposed by Limavady councillor Aaron Callan, will see the council develop an International Causeway Airshow to mark the Queen s Platinum Jubilee next year.
Cllr Callan said it would also mark 30 years since the original air show in Portrush.
“We are looking to reinvigorate and take this air show in a new direction,” he told the council.
Mayor stumps up after councillors clash over £300 donation
Some councillors disagreed with the contribution.

A local mayor has had to dip into his charitable fund after councillors were unable to find consensus on a request for a £300 charitable donation at Tuesday night s council meeting.
Some councillors on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council objected to a Department for Communities (DfC) request for a donation to help distribute aid for Syrian refugees.
In correspondence, DfC said they were keen to ensure the charity, the Kiltonga Christian Centre Storehouse in County Down, was not left out of pocket.
“As your council has VPRS (Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme) families I am seeking your agreement to pay a voluntary donation of £300 per annum,” they said.
