Chester urged to turn red hearts green in the run up to Valentine s Day

PEOPLE in Chester are being urged to Show the Love in the build up to Valentine s Day by swapping traditional red hearts for green. Eco Communities, a community interest company set up in the city to unite people towards the shared goal of mitigating climate change, is behind the initiative. Show the Love is an annual event by The Climate Coalition which uses the green heart as a symbol for the things we care about and want to protect from the climate crisis the world is facing. As part of the initiative, Eco Communities will be putting on a two-day virtual event aimed at helping to inform people on ways of preventing climate change on a personal level.

Meet Chester s new Postcode Gardener | Chester and District Standard

CHESTER has officially appointed a Postcode Gardener and become the first city north of London to do so. Following the success of the initiative in the capital, Friends of the Earth Chester has sought to emulate it. The part-time role is part of the 10xgreener scheme which seeks to combine transforming local green spaces with the help of the community. Former English teacher Charlotte Houghton, who lives in the Garden Quarter and has always had a passion for the outdoors, has taken on the job in Chester. She said: I m so excited to be hired as Chester s Postcode Gardener, I m so proud to live in such a wonderful city, and now I ve got an opportunity to help the community to beautify as many green spaces as we can over the next year!
