May 7, 2021
We’re just six weeks out from the US Olympic Trials, and this weekend many of America’s top athletes have decided it’s time to show their cards.
Evan Jager is running his first steeple since 2018.
Allyson Felix is running her first 200 outdoors since 2017. And world champions
Noah Lyles (200m) and
Donavan Brazier (800m) will run their specialty events for the first time outdoors in 2021 the latter against a stacked field that includes
Bryce Hoppel and
Shelby Houlihan is still nowhere to be seen and
Kendra Harrison, the world record holder will run the 100m hurdles. Kirby Lee/USA TODAY Sports
The US Olympic Trials are right around the corner, just a month and a half out at this point. The 2021 USATF Golden Games are the next step many athletes are taking to prepare for the Trials. There should be some great competition at the meet along with some fast times and big marks.
The men’s 100m race has a lot of eyes focused on it. The other day it was announced that DK Metcalf is running the 100 at the Golden Games. Considered one of the fastest players in the NFL, Metcalf is going to test the track speed vs football speed argument. Former Olympian Michael Rodgers will be competing in the 100m as well. 8x NCAA All-American, Bryce Robinson will make an appearance as well.
Which Americans Have the Olympic Standard Right Now? Who Would Get In On World Ranking? And How Do You Qualify For the Olympics, Again?
May 5, 2021
Seven weeks from now, America’s top athletes will head to the new Hayward Field for the US Olympic Trials, where they will attempt to qualify for this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo. But how, exactly, does one qualify for the Olympics?
It’s a question worth revisiting, because the Olympic qualifying system has undergone some significant changes from previous years. And, unless you’re an agent or an athlete, it may have been a while since you’ve actually read through the specifics. Over two years have passed since the IAAF introduced these changes yes, it was so long ago that World Athletics was still known as the IAAF and I’m guessing you read something about “world rankings” and maybe forgot about it for a while once COVID hit last year.
