âOver the past nine years, RUN has been a great champion for the crucial work of our regional universities and has represented our interests well at the national level, but there is still much work to do.â
Prof Klomp said he would fight to ensure the interests of regional universities werenât forgotten.
âAs incoming chair, Iâm looking forward to continuing to ensure that our regional universities get a seat at the national decision-making table, and that government policy and legislation is enacted in the very best interests of the regions,â he said.

Subscriber only USC has 25 scholarships up for grabs for Fraser Coast students applying to study a range of undergraduate certificates this semester. Vice-Chancellor Professor Helen Bartlett said the scholarships were part of a pilot initiative to expand the career and study options for Fraser Coast students and provide direct level pathways to university degrees. This is an ideal opportunity for adults seeking to upskill or re-skill, and new school leavers who maybe did not receive the ATAR score or university offer they had hoped for. The undergraduate certificates comprise four introductory-level subjects to enable students to develop fundamental skills and knowledge in their chosen field of study.
QTAC yesterday released the mid-January round of offers, taking the number of university hopefuls who have
received offers to study at USC so far to 5,622.
In a statement the university said that number was up 17.8 per cent and 21 per cent on two years ago.
The offers included 2,296 to applicants from the Sunshine Coast (including Noosa Shire), 1,559 to residents of the Moreton Bay region, as well as 205 to Fraser Coast and 184 to Gympie residents.
USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Helen Bartlett congratulated those who have received offers and encouraged new students to join in Orientation activities from February 22-26.
“University study can be transformative,” Professor Bartlett said. “Not only does it boost career prospects, it can lead to long-lasting friendships and business contacts.”
A COMMUNITY group determined to tackle high rents has raised more than £300,000 to buy its first property for a student housing co-op. More than 120 individuals, organisations and businesses have invested in a share offer through Brighton and Hove Community Land Trust to reach well over the trust’s target of £260,000. It means the trust is now in a position to buy its first property, which it plans to lease to the South East Students Autonomously Living Together (Seasalt) student housing co-operative. Seasalt was formed by students at the University of Sussex and the University of Brighton in 2018 with the aim of providing affordable student housing.
