The University Grants Commission announces two pivotal regulations: one for academic collaborations between Indian and foreign higher education institutions, enabling Twinning, Joint, and Dual Degree Programs; the other regulates foreign institutions setting up campuses in India. Mandating UGC approval for any program offered by foreign institutions, the regulations warn against unrecognized collaborations and franchises, cautioning students against pursuing degrees without UGC recognition.
According to the regulations, no foreign higher education institution can offer a programme in India without receiving the Commission s approval. They additionally state that no programmes offered by HEIs shall be offered under a franchising agreement, and that the UGC will not acknowledge any such programmes.
