Youth for Change partners students, professional artists

LIMA Professional artists are mentoring Lima youth through Youth for Change, a series of fine arts summits designed to make the arts more accessible to students who may otherwise go without.
The program, which held its first youth summit in May, has partnered junior high and high school students with mentor vocalists, chefs, poets and performers, introducing young artists to professional artists and offering the chance for Lima youth to pursue creative outlets.
“We wanted to give them a chance to be exposed to a professional standard of the arts, whatever their passion is,” said Nick Kellis, president of the Heartland Image Foundation, a non-profit film studio that founded Youth for Change.

LIMA Sixty-three percent of Allen County adults over 80 years-old have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines since Ohio’s vaccination effort started in December. But the pace of vaccinations among the oldest seniors has slowed in recent weeks, suggesting that many seniors are either wary of the vaccines or have been crowded out by a registration system that exists largely online and is difficult to navigate for those with unreliable internet access or transportation.
