Police report shows decline in crime last year in Madison Heights Advertisement MADISON HEIGHTS In a presentation to the Madison Heights City Council, the police chief provided a statistical analysis of crimes and responses for 2020. Chief Corey Haines looked at two categories of crime Group A and Group B with the Group A crimes being more serious crimes generally punishable by a year or more in prison. In that category, there were 360 cases of larceny and retail fraud, as well as 225 assault offenses, 114 cases of damage to property, 54 home invasions or burglaries, and 14 robberies. The most frequent Group B crimes were operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs at 100 cases, obstructing police at 59 cases, and disorderly conduct at 49 cases.

Madison Heights announces Spring Cleanup Day, No Fee Brush Chipping Week Shutterstock image MADISON HEIGHTS Two events in early May will help Madison Heights residents to tidy up. The first is No Fee Brush Chipping Week, the week of May 3. Residents can place branches and brush at the curb on their normally scheduled garbage day, which the city will collect and chip, free of charge. The branches must be placed neatly in piles at the curb, cut into 4-foot lengths, and the branches must not extend into the street or sidewalk. They must be put out by 7 a.m. The service is provided by the Madison Heights Department of Public Services in collaboration with the city’s solid waste contractor, Green For Life Environmental, known as GFL.

Fitness Court coming to Huffman Park

The city of Madison Heights will be installing its own Fitness Court, like this one in San Francisco, at Huffman Park this summer. The outdoor exercise facilities are designed and partially funded by the National Fitness Campaign. The Madison Heights one will be cosponsored by Priority Health.
