Compared with white women, Black women have elevated risks of being diagnosed with advanced uterine cancer also known as endometrial cancer and of developing aggressive tumors.
A new EMBARGOED study in the journal, Cancer, found that endometrial cancer rates in Black women are related to factors beyond ancestry, including social determinants of health such as diet, psychosocial and physiological chronic stress and neighborhood/built environmental factors. The study compared both the overall incidence and trends for endometrial cancer between African-descent women in the U.S. (Florida) and the French Caribbean, specifically the islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe.
