Published December 16, 2020 8:48am A physician and her husband were shot to their death in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Tuesday afternoon, police said Wednesday. Information from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office identified the victims as Mary Rose Sancelan and Edwin Sancelan. An initial police investigation showed the couple were on their way home when the suspects shot them in Barangay Poblacion. The assailants immediately escaped. Police said the victims were rushed to Guihulngan Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician. Recovered from the crime scene were 15 fired bullets of caliber .45 handgun.

A human rights group on Wednesday warned anew about the severe implications of red-tagging on the safety of individuals following the killing of red-tagged doctor and her husband in Negros Oriental.
Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay said the killing of Dr. Mary Rose Sancelan and her husband Edwin proved the threats of red-tagging are “real and certainly not contrived.”
Red-tagging is the act of linking individuals or progressive groups to the communist movement and its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA).
The couple was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen while on their way home in Barangay Poblacion in Guihulngan City.
December 16, 2020 A DOCTOR, who was allegedly linked to communist rebels, and her husband were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Tuesday, police reported Wednesday, December 16, 2020.
The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office said the victims, who were identified as Dr. Mary Rose Sancelan and Edwin Sancelan, were shot in Barangay Poblacion while they were on their way home.
The assailants sped off to an unknown direction after the execution.
Police said the Sancelans were declared dead on arrival at the Guihulngan Hospital.
Recovered from the crime scene were 15 bullets from a caliber .45 handgun.
Investigation is ongoing.
