Heichal HaTorah Expands Leadership Team By Jewish Link Staff | May 13, 2021 When Heichal HaTorah began eight years ago with 17 ninth-grade students, Rav Aryeh Stechler, the founding rosh yeshiva, was the only full-time administrator. Rav Stechler coordinated all aspects of the yeshiva, assisted by a small group of lay leaders led by Yehuda and Yael Jacoby. Heading into its ninth year, the yeshiva has expanded enormously: Over 235 talmidim are expected to enroll 185 talmidim in the high school and over 50 talmidim studying in its post-Israel Yeshiva and College Institute. Heichal is home to a full educational and operational leadership team that includes: Rabbi Maccabee Avishur, academic dean and general studies principal; Rav Daniel Schwechter, mashgiach of the high school; Rav Moshe Don Kestenbaum, mashgiach of the beis midrash program; Dr. Ari Klein, director of guidance; Rabbi Avi Epstein, director of admissions; Teri Normand, executive director;

A Song and a Prayer      By Riki Goldstein | April 27, 2021 Rebbetzin Rochel Rakow faced tragedy with a siddur in her hands and song on her lips There’s a beautiful picture of Rebbetzin Rochel Rakow taken on her final visit to Eretz Yisrael, in May 2019. She s seated serenely in her wheelchair, in a Meah Shearim store, its walls lined with leather siddurim.In her hand is a gigantic bag of freshly popped popcorn. Together with a six-year-old grandchild, the nonagenarian great-grandmother is choosing a gift. The most precious gift ever  a siddur. The child in the picture is named Hindy, after the Rebbetzin’s sister, who survived the Holocaust alongside her, and the gift they’re selecting together is the indispensable item that Rebbetzin Rakow always had within arm’s reach, during the Holocaust years a siddur, her connection to tefillah; it was this that she passed on to her family. NJ and NY Teachers Receive Tikvah s Inaugural Lincoln Fellowship

By Elizabeth Kratz | December 31, 2020 Educators at 17 New York and New Jersey yeshiva high schools and day schools were named as recipients of the Tikvah Fund’s Abraham Lincoln Teachers Fellowship. The inaugural class of 36 fellows will join an advanced seminar on American history and civilization designed for Jewish day school and yeshiva educators. The program, which will run from January to May 2021, will cover a wide range of themes including religion, freedom, self-government, equality and commerce across 400 years of history. The fellowship “is designed to gather the best and most dedicated teachers of American civilization from Jewish day schools and yeshivas for the purpose of creating a community of teachers and learners who will explore deeply, at the level of a graduate seminar, the enduring themes of American civilization,” said Tikvah’s online academy dean, Harry Ballan. “We do this in a spirit of patriotism and gratitude, with special attenti
