Photo courtesy Irsa s website/File KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Monday witnessed a stormy session as ruling Pakistan People Party vehemently condemned the federal government for cutting down Sindh’s water share in violation of the 1991 Water Accord through a strong-worded resolution that was opposed by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, saying the PPP created an artificial shortage by favouring its “blue-eyed waderas”. Major opposition parties in the provincial assembly Grand Democratic Alliance and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan which are coalition partners of the PTI-led federal government, however, supported the resolution tabled by Irrigation Minister Sohail Anwar Sial.

Karachi May 4, 2021 The opposition legislators of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Monday staged a walkout from the Sindh Assembly after they were denied extra time in the House to put forth their proposals for the forthcoming budget of the province for the financial year 2021-22. The Sindh Assembly continued its discussion on the upcoming provincial budget for the fourth day. Speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani did not accept the request of the MQM-P for granting more than usual time to present their suggestions related to the forthcoming budget. The denial of their request compelled the MQM-P MPAs to stage a walkout from the house. The MQM-P legislators, however, came back after sometime to attend the remaining part of the session.

The resolutions were moved by Women Development Minister Syeda Shehla Raza, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s Rana Ansar and Mohammad Hussain Khan and Adeeba Hassan of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf. The resolution moved by Shehla Raza reads, “On the eve of International Women’s Day, this house reaffirms the commitment to end all kinds of discrimination and violence against women and pursue policies that guarantee fundamental human rights for women.”
