Hector LaSalle, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s choice, was rejected by the State Senate Judiciary Committee. But now a member of the opposing party has gone to court on his behalf.
A Republican state senator filed a lawsuit on Thursday seeking a full Senate hearing for Justice Hector LaSalle, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s choice for chief judge.
Sen. Anthony Palumbo (R-Riverhead), who filed the suit in Suffolk County Supreme Court, is suing the Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee who voted against advancing LaSalle’s nomination to the full Senate last month.
Sens. Michael Gianaris (D-Queens) and Brad Hoylman-Sigal (D-Manhattan) announced legislation on Monday they said is aimed at exposing the “influence of dark money in the nomination and confirmation process of state officials.”
The impasse over the nomination of Hector LaSalle to be the chief judge of the Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court, lingers on as the governor unveils her budget blueprint this week and battles over bail, housing, taxes and spending are brewing.
