MEMA awards $4 million to volunteer fire companies across the state

47abc July 14, 2021 MARYLAND – The Maryland Emergency Management Agency is awarding about $4 million federal funding to 181 volunteer fire, EMS, and rescue departments across the state. The funding is coming from the Recovery for the Economy, Livelihoods, Industries, Entrepreneurs, and Families Act (RELIEF) of 2021. “This funding provides much needed financial support to the volunteer fire service for lost revenue as a result of COVID-19 during 2020,” said MEMA Executive Director Russell Strickland in a release. Two local volunteer fire companies are going to be getting a chunk of that funding. The biggest local winners are Hebron Volunteer Fire Company and Sharptown Volunteer Fire Company. Hebron VFC is receiving $114,828.65, while Sharptown VFC is getting $104,608.27.
