Harsh winters are something you really can t avoid if you live in Montana. One of the coldest temperatures on record in the entire country was right here in the Treasure State. Back in 1954, a temperature of -70 was recorded at Roger s Pass, north of Helena. To this day, this is the coldest temperature on record in the lower 48.
So far this winter, temperatures have been much warmer than usual. We ll most likely see temperatures drop below zero a few times this winter, but throughout Montana s history there have been some extremely harsh winters.
