what does that mean? when you re talking two feet or more, that s just got to be a huge problem for these areas. right. it s not that music to get more than 20 inches of rain. i ve counted about ten of those kind of weather events i worked in my 40 years in texas. the and mostly due to tropical storms that have come inland and died out. but usually isolated over a pocket. the difference here is we re forecasting this over a wide swath. of the that s what really concerns me. think about this. it up can the inlpd, stops right where it went inland. just as the folks are trying to recover and first responders are trying to help people out from thelandfall, all this heavy rain is falling and that will retard their efforts to do the same down there and get things back to normal. then of course you have what goes on over the next week effecting major metropolitan areas, anywhere from san antonio
southeast, especially near atlanta, also back into new orleans where heavy rain is falling. there is the possibility over the course of the next 48 hours we could end up with three to four inches of rain, especially back into parts of louisiana and the gulf coast states. we re still keeping an eye on tropical storm oryann. there s a pretty good chance it will generate completely. not too big a threat to the bahamas. it is still a tropical storm but it is weakening. warm in chicago, 68. 90s into southern technical tbgs. 75 in seattle. looks nice that way. the cool air will spread eastward. boston, upper 90s. 100 down in the tkpwhruft coast.
passing through omaha. over the last 48 hours incredibly heavy rain is falling especially across northeastern iowa, southeastern minnesota and in towards wisconsin. take a look at this video. there s spots here. that s a radar estimation that s seen 12 inches of rain in the last 48 hours. this is the flooding caused. there s been major people rescued and evacuations from flooding. a little more rain going on there as well over the next couple of days i think we potentially might see a couple inches of rain there. that means that it s going to be continued flooding. that s how much rain we re going to see. yellow, spots of two inches. six states in the northern plains with flooding concerns. where you see counties in maroon, flash flooding going on this morning. very dangerous conditions, severe weather through the area. northern plains where the big problem is, anywhere to the south of that, warm but drier. clayton, send it over to you.
baldwin county in alabama across southwestern portions of the state. there could currently be a tornado on the ground. threat of isolated tornados and damaging wind gusts will continue throughout the afternoon. the snowfall was significant across portions minnesota and wisconsin. over a foot of snow in some areas. minneapolis picked up 10 inches of snow. you can see in the images a lot of snow falling across the area. causing all kinds of travel issues though. the storm system is producing more travel issues again not because so much of snowfall but because of rainfall. we have the images on the satellite radar pictures. we have delays over an hour across parts of laguardia and other larger airports. heavy rain is falling further off towards the south across portions of tennessee alabama and georgia. a tornado warning across southwestern parts of alabama and southern mississippi and southeastern louisiana. that is until 3:00 p.m.
if you re just joining us, the really, really good news is heavy rain is falling right over the top of some of the worst drought conditions in the country. it s not widespread. central indiana is getting drenched. already in indianapolis, you picked up an inch of rain which is by far the heaviest you ve seen this summer. it s going toontinue because there s more coming behind it, too. eventually all of this is going to head for ohio today. so many areas from cleveland to columbus, all the way down through cincinnati, a chance of some heavy rain during a portion of the day today. this area in yellow which goes all the way from little rock to memphis back up to buffalo and pittsburgh including all of the ohio valley. a chance of strong thunderstorms. we don t want damaging storms but we do want beneficial rains that come with it. also some of those storms late today may try to drift towards central pennsylvania and central new york. the storms for d.c., new york and hartford today, only
