They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway and so too is the glow at Pueblo’s Memorial Hall where three Broadway musicals will light up the stage starting Nov. 14 after a year in the dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Broadway Theatre League Pueblo President Leslie Nazario said the group is “so excited and it’s about time,” to bring live theater back. The 61st season of high-caliber shows will feature the 7 p.m. Nov. 14 performance of “Cats,” the 7 p.m. Dec. 7 performance of “Hairspray” and the 4 p.m. Jan. 9 performance of “Waitress.”
The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Cats,” one of the longest running Broadway productions, which launched in the early 1980s, features tales of cats like Grizabella the Glamour Cat, a lonely mangy cat who is an outcast and Asparagus the Theater Cat, an old and rundown former famous actor.

Geography Bee champs crowned

The winning teams received a 30-inch tall traveling trophy with perpetual name plate which have the winning schools’ names engraved. The winning teams’ school can display the trophy as long as its team remains champions. The second place teams also received smaller traveling trophies.
Twin Valley South’s fourth and fifth grade team and Eaton Middle School’s sixth-eighth grade team were declared the winners of the annual Preble County Geography Bee, held Thursday, April 15, at Preble Shawnee. Preble Shawnee’s fourth and fifth grade team and Tri-County North’s sixth-eighth grade team took home second place honors in the competition.

EATON Local Miami Valley Carrer Technology Center STEM instructor Laini Ferriell has been awarded the 2021 Dayton Regional STEM Center’s (DRSC) STEM Education Leadership & Service Award.
Ferriell was nominated by her MVCTC Satellite Supervisor, Mr. Jesse Maxfield, who stated, “Laini strives to provide the best opportunities for her students. She is constantly exploring how she can further incorporate STEM-based projects into her classroom. Laini is a true leader when it comes to STEM education.”
In a congratulation letter to Ferriell, Dayton Regional STEM Center Director Director Elizabeth Wolfe-Eberly stated, “ We received many high-quality applications which were systematically reviewed by a panel of judges external to the staff of the DRSC. This panel included K-12 educators, higher education STEM representatives and representatives from local STEM business and industry.”
No wasted vaccines in Preble

EATON Preble County EMA Director Dave Anderson met with the Preble County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, Feb. 17, to update the county’s vaccination progress.
Anderson said he is participating in phone calls and Zoom meetings with the Ohio EMA, Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association and the Ohio Department of Health.
Additionally, Preble EMA has assisted the health department with planning, setup and operation of vaccine clinics in Preble County.
“Since January 29 – that was their first clinic – they’ve had 16 clinics to date,” Anderson said. “They’ve done 2,055 first shots and they’ve got 692 second shots done.”
