Local prosecutors have not charged officers in any of the police-involved fatalities that the Maryland attorney general’s office has completed investigations for, according to an inaugural yearly report released Tuesday by the office’s unit that investigates police killings statewide.
Ivan Bates will be Baltimore’s next top prosecutor after officially winning the race for city state’s attorney, a post he has been widely expected to secure since his victory in a tough three-way primary this summer. Bates was unopposed in the general election. Early returns Tuesday night showed he was reaping 98% of the vote .
During a City Council hearing Thursday, leaders of the Baltimore Police Department and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, among other agencies, received criticism for their handling of the assessment.
