The head of the fbi has defended its work after a classified memo was released accusing it of bias against president trump, and abuse of power. The memo, written by republican members of congress, says the fbi got permission to wiretap one of mr trumps advisers in 2016 by using unsubstantiated evidence which had been paid for by his political opponents. Our correspondent peter bowes reports. This is the memo that sunk relations between the president and the fbi to a new low. The document, written by republicans, makes the case that the Justice Department and the fbi showed bias towards donald trump while buying on one of his advisers. A warrant for the surveillance operation was based on a dossier of information compiled by a former British Intelligence agent who was desperate for donald trump to lose the election. They say by 2020 there will be a £5. 8 billion annual shortfall. Whats more, they say they need an additional £1. 3 billion now for social care. Ministers will point to much needed efficiency savings made in the same period, but labour says its time for change. After nearly eight years of conservative government, councils have lost 50 of theirf

And ireland pull off a dramatic victory with the last kick of the game in the Six Nations Rugby as they beat france by fifteen points to thirteen in paris. Good evening and welcome to bbc news. A local council has taken the highly unusual step of imposing emergency spending controls, after saying its facing severe financial challenges. The move by Northamptonshire County Council means a ban on all new spending, apart from whats used to protect Vulnerable People. The councils conservative leader, heather smith, says the move is a result of rising demand for services and cuts in government funding. It follows warnings that other authorities are also struggling to remain solvent. Im joined now by nick golding editor of the local government chronicle. Thank you forjoining us this evening. First of all, if we start with northamptonshire, whats gone on there . It must be really desp
