The prospect of yet another provincial lockdown is an obstacle to economic recovery for some Saugeen Shores businesses that were able to re-open as of midnight Feb. 16.
Port Elgin businessman Steven Harris, owner of Ristorante Rosina and president of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce, outlined the staffing problem during a Zoom meeting of the Mayorâs Task Force on Economic Recovery Feb.16.

Harris said some potential restaurant and retail staff are worried another lockdown will happen. âI know some people we laid off just before Christmas â they just got their first EI (unemployment insurance payment) a week or two ago â so, itâs quite difficult to lay some people off, which Iâve done for a third time, and theyâve had to go five or six weeks without any payment,â Harris said.
