I am writing today to bring to light a decision made by the Heath Select Board to reduce the full-time Highway Department staff from four to three employees. Citing budgetary reasons to save taxpayer money, the decision was made without any discussion.
Once again, the tone-deaf Heath Select Board has made a counterintuitive decision that will impact every resident in town without soliciting the input of the town residents. We are sitting here in stunned disbelief after learning that the Select Board.

Why?! Question number one when I say I’m running for Heath Select Board. Why? Because I care deeply about Heath, about where it’s been and where it’s going.
Question number two, what are your priorities? Here are my top five.
■Secure a permanent solution for the education of our elementary age children. It has been four years since we made the difficult decision to close our school. We need this settled.
■Find a way to use our town buildings to the benefit of all the town. This has been a divisive issue. Continued delays in dealing with it have made it more so. If we are going to heal the rift and start moving forward, this has to be settled. To honor the work of the people who preceded us, to prepare for Heathans of the future we must compromise. As individuals we win a little and lose a little. As a town we all benefit.

I’m running for Select Board because I want to end the division in town. We need each other, and we are neighbors first. I want us to work together as a community again. And to model that for the next generations.
In the past, I’ve worked hard for the town Chair of the Board of Health, Hall Committee, Recycling Committee, on Long Range Planning, and School Building Committee. I started Clean Sweep Day, the Farmers Market, and pushed for the Swap Shed at the dump, recycling at the Fair, improved relations with Mohawk Estates.
