mexico city. have there been signs of from what you can see? officials say there are signs of in here. they have been able to pick up the back of the building. how delicate this is. there was a stop work order and this building has become so unstable. japanese rescue crews may be an israeli crew on top of the building serving and trying to figure out how to get ropes and access to the back of the building. they have heat signatures for many people about several dozen people are missing and believed possibly in this building. clearly 72 hours it is critical that they get in there. the problem is how. with the rain they had over the last couple of days, it weighed down the building and all that water makes it very, very unstable.
since yesterday evening. we ve seen the same thing continuing into this morning, only now it is more dire. we re heading into the fourth day. that is a critical period for rescuers who are trying to find any sign of life in rubble like this. take a look at this. this used to be a textile factory about three floors that completely pancaked on top of each other when the earthquake struck. people were strapped inside. now the search is on for survivors. we were here when two people were pulled out of the rubble. it was a joyous occasion for workers very briefly because they knew they had to get back to work. you see the people up there with sledgehammers, a backhoe, a massive crane that will pull pieces, huge chunks of debris off of the work site. what they re doing obviously is looking for survivors. they ve had dogs, audio technology, infrared technology to get inside there to see if there s heat signatures, audio signatures that would indicate a source of life so they could go
the emergency exits. they re not sure how many. they believe there may be dozens of people in this building dead or alive but they did get some heat signatures on the back side of the building. because they ve had heavy rains the last couple days the water has weighed down the building and it s very difficult for them to get there. there was a complete work stoppage. they said that building was in imminent danger of collapse. all workers were called off. we ve just seen a few appear on the top. they looked around, and now appears that they re trying to get around to the backside of the building to see if they can access it some other way. it is hoped that there are cavities in that building where people are still alive. ana? we keep looking at these images. i keep thinking i would love to see as we all would somebody emerge be pulled from that wreckage and be okay. miguel marquez, thank you for that update for the hard work in mexico city. coming up for us here in cnn s at this hour
necessarily started but freda never existed. the officials tracked what they thought were heat signatures in a pocket of that school, and they thought they had identified a possible source of life. somewhere in between there the reporting got mixed up, either with government officials or military officials. we have to be very quiet. see the hands being raised? this is when they think they have something that might be identifiable as maybe a source of life or just a communication that they need to get up to the chain of command. when those hands go up, everybody falls quiet. it s an unbelievable sight. like we ve been saying, the story line with that young girl, not true. what is true is the resolve of these workers no matter what. they re doing everything they can at this critical time to save as much life as possible. thank you, steve. while freda sophia may not be someone they re trying to rescue, we can see those workers at this moment digging their way
