Kosta Papic has been slammed for discrimination by Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak, who claim he was sacked in a heated press conference on Thursday.
Papic tendered his resignation on Tuesday which the official communication from the club stated was due to personal reasons but reports in Ghana suggest it was due to a fallout with management.
Papic is said to have become disillusioned by the interference in his work during his second stint in charge, with the 20-time league champions now seemingly fallen into a state of turmoil.
The entire technical team has resigned over the past week as they languish 11th in the 18-team division and board member Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe claims Papic was relieved of his duties due to a split he caused in the dressing room.
“I faced the same interference which Papic faced at Hearts with player’s selection,” 1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner Polo, who coached Hearts between 2013 and 2014, told Ashh FM. The direction of Hearts of Oak isn t the best and it can t be the best in any way, it s not done in Europe - how the management and the board run the team in Ghana. I m ready for the Hearts of Oak job on one condition, that is, I will bring in my own assistant manager.
The recent stint was Papic s second spell with Hearts of Oak, having first coached the club in 2009.
Hearts of Oak players told the board that Kosta Papic is their problem because of his favouritism in the team when it comes to player selections, Nyaho-Tamakloe is quoted by Sportsworldghana as saying.
“The players complained that the coach kept changing his winning team and there were inconsistencies of tactics implementation which he also featured injured players in matches.
Papic s departure has caused a storm in the camp of the Phobians as goalkeepers trainer Ben Owusu resigned alongside the Serbian.
Long-serving team manager Sabahn Quaye has also reportedly been fired in a related incident while assistant coach Asare Bediako also reportedly resigned last week.
