Strait was born in the small town of Poteet, Texas, just south of San Antonio, to parents John and Doris. His father was a math teacher and also owned a 2,000-acre ranch, where Strait and his siblings brother John Jr. (known as Buddy) and sister Pency worked on weekends and during the summers. However, when Strait was in fourth grade, his parents divorced, and his mother moved away with his sister, leaving the future country star and Buddy to live with their father.

Fans of George Strait, the notoriously private country star, can get a glimpse of his big-bucks lifestyle via photos of a mansion he owns in Texas.
The house, on a 12.2-acre hilltop in San Antonio, is on sale and listed for $7.5 million, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.
“Designed by sculptor-turned-architect Bill Tull, the adobe mansion took two years to build,” the real estate website says. “Strait and his wife, Norma, bought the land in the upscale Dominion Country Club neighborhood of San Antonio in the mid-1990s. . Tull moved his (Arizona-based) staff to San Antonio where they resided for the two years the home was under construction.
