i m james thompson. i m running for u.s. congress and i m going to go to washington, d.c. and fight for your family. beautiful thing about your district is we have all of the family values. we are the heart land and we re the best part of america because we have everything here. to raise a family and to be good americans. taking your money, vialing yo violating your values. late term abortion. that s james thompson. more extreme than your typical d.c. liberal. bold. yeah. it s so telling that both of those ads are about the democratic candidate. democrat going positive. republican going negative. you compare that to the ads that are running in the georgia race we re talking about. democrat is being attacked there not as this arch liberal. more on character issues because that is more of a swing district. actually it was a one-point race during the presidential race that georgia district was versus
playing some of the highlights, he has talked about china rapping the united states and destroying jobs in the heart land in states that he carried in the november election. not only does the president face this delicate diplomatic distance in terms of what he s going to discuss with the chinese president, he also is facing this pressure and i think it s going to be mounting pressure over the coming months back in those states that he carried, those critical states that he carried like wisconsin and michigan and ohio and pennsylvania heading into the midterms and into 2020. if he does not make good on these campaign promises to crack down on trade with china, you re going to have some of these union members who peeled away from the democratic party during the 2016 campaign saying wait a minute, president trump, you said you were going to go after china on these trade practices and you didn t do it. the president does have he does find himself in a bit of a political box when it comes
you ran on this, off mandate, put it to the democrats, especially democrats up in 2018, make them take this society voetd because this is something the president won on and let s go and watch the democrats sweat a little. democrats are standing by watching. what i noticed during the campaign was that trump would do these things where he would stick up for poor people, he would stickum for the needs of people, even stuck up for planned parenthood, people forget that, and while he was doing that, we were aten toich the heart land, this particular mix working. i don t think the people in washington, d.c., who are in the republican party, hooray, we now have all these majorities, understand how they got those majorities. they didn t get them based on a paul ryan world view, whatever his positive points are. that wasn t what won. what you now have is a guy who has a philosophy when he remembers it that actually is
heart land. we were inside the lady s gallery inside the ohio state house and our discussion centered on foreign policy, russia and whether there s any chance of uniting this divided country. are you comfortable with the idea that some of us would be dealing with the russians during the campaign and before he was installed in the presidency? it s the old rule that 80% of the things you worry about never happen. we probably get over excited about a lot of these things and probably it s nothing most of the time. look at our history. it s been that way. it s not the only thing that s ever happened. not a big deal to you. not a big deal to me. keep them under the radar. they re supposed to be talking to these people. does anybody here remember the shoe and i will destroy you from the inside? is that lost or because it s not our generation that we don t
you should be able to have a huge variety of views without calling each other and treating each other as enemies. up fortunately, a a number of it doesn t allow real journalism. agreed. of course it should be more in the heart land. absolutely. i want to be clear i agree with you in the sense that i obviously believe that we need to have journalists who hold powerful people accountable and tell the truth. i m not agreeing with bannon. i m saying i think there is a reason why donald trump has picked us to pick on. we re less popular than him. easy target. not anything new. i m sort of in the middle of this as usual. i think there is a disconnect between the media and a lot of people in the united states in particular who are trump supporters and it s a cultural disconnect. absolutely.
