Bauer s bet on making print a major part of the e-commerce funnel

Bauer s partnership with Phuzion aims to make print a bigger part of the e-commerce funnel E-commerce has seen years’ worth of growth in a short few months. Consumers, stuck at home, have rapidly become habituated to purchasing online, which has benefited online marketplaces and publishers with strong affiliate and e-commerce programs of their own. But for publishers with a strong print portfolio the question has become how they can use those print products to open the funnel to e-commerce revenue without being too interruptive. Bauer is betting on the advancement of image recognition technology to close that gap between print and digital. Both Grazia and Heat are set to incorporate new scannable images – without the need for QR codes or watermarks – from May 17. These images, once scanned, will then take readers directly to a storefront for more information and purchase options.

Cosmopolitan publisher cuts almost 200 jobs Hearst UK has put a fifth of its workforce under threat as the magazine publisher moves to overhaul the business The publisher behind magazines including  Good Housekeeping and  Cosmopolitan has put almost 200 jobs under threat - close to a fifth of its UK workforce. Hearst UK said changes in consumer behaviour and media consumption following the Covid crisis had prompted an overhaul of the business.  The restructure will result in the closure of the UK edition of  Town & Country magazine, while the nutrition and health advice website NetDoctor has been put up for sale.   It is understood voluntary redundancy packages have been offered to staff as part of the process. Some magazine titles will also have a lower print run.
