Travel + Leisure released its list of the 10 Cheapest Places to Retire in Canada and Quebec City ranked number one, proving itself to be an enticing destination for Canadian seniors.
Quebec is the clear winner and Ontario is the loser in a ranking of the cheapest Canadian cities for renters. The ranking of renter costs by the site Point2 is based on 2021 census data from the country's 50 most populous cities and includes evaluations of rent, heating, electricity and water prices. Quebec cities dominate the top 10, all of them with costs under $1,000/month in 2021, according to Point2. Conversely, Toronto cities occupy eight of the bottom 10 spots.
Quebec has often been regarded as a relatively affordable province, but that doesn't seem to be the case any longer. MovingWaldo, a Canadian company that provides moving services, dropped its list of the cheapest provinces in Canada in 2023 where you can spend less without having to sacrifice one's quality of life.
Prochaine station: a huge mortgage payment. A series of Montreal metro maps by Via Capitale real estate broker Charlyse Amoussou shows median condo prices around every station in 2021. Amoussou used Centris data from January to December 2021 to compile the figures shown in the maps, which represent the selling prices of properties within a one-kilometre radius of STM metro stops.
