Journalist Rozina Islam gets bail
A Dhaka court has granted bail to Prothom Alo senior reporter Rozina Islam till July 15 in a case filed under the Official Secrets Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah passed the order virtually on Sunday morning upon a bond of Tk 5,000.
The court also asked Rozina to submit her passport before it.
Rozina Islam’s lawyer Ehsanul Haque Shomaji said, “The court heard the arguments from sides and granted her bail upon a bond of Tk 5,000.”
On May 20, the same court heard the bail petition and set today to pass the order.
The journalist was shown arrested in the case and sent to Kashimpur Women’s Jail on May 18 after her bail was rejected.

On May 17, Rozina was confined to a room of the Secretariat’s Health Services Division for more than five hours over allegations of spiriting away important government documents and taking photos of the papers.
Court to pass order on Rozina Islam’s bail Sunday
A Dhaka court has set Sunday to pass order on Prothom Alo senior reporter Rozina Islam’s bail petition in a case filed under the Official Secrets Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah fixed the date today (Thursday) after the bail petition was heard virtually.
Rozina was not produced before the court during the hearing.
Citing the reason of delaying the bail order, the court also allowed time for prosecution to submitting some important evidence before the court to examine on Sunday.
Earlier, the prosecution, during the hearing, wanted to submit a video that circulated last night. In the video, Rozina was found saying that she had made a mistake and would be willing to give a written undertaking.
Rozina’s case transferred to DB
Prothom Alo senior reporter Rozina Islam’s case filed under Official Secrets Act has been transferred to Detective Branch (DB) of police as per the direction of top officials.
Shahbagh police handed over all the papers of the lawsuit to the DB police of Ramna Division on Wednesday.
Ramna Division’s deputy commissioner HM Azizul Haque confirmed the matter.
Now, the DB will investigate the case.
Mishu Bishwas, additional deputy commissioner of DB Ramna Division, said, “We got all the papers of the case and will investigate through proper process.”
Rozina was sent to prison on Tuesday in a case filed for “stealing” government documents and taking photographs of them on her mobile phone without due permission.
