Hilde Ludwiga (Guth) Bacharach age 101 passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023. She was born on December 21, 1921 to Franz Guth and Emma (Auer) Guth in Hof, Germany. She grew up in Regensburg, Germany and began her career as a kindergarten teacher in a small town nearby. After WWII in 1951, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and traveled to the USA to study education at the University of Miami at Ohio. There, she met and wed her husband John Bacharach, former Eau Claire City County Health Director. She and John began raising two boys Mike (Andy) of Sioux Falls and David (Nancy) of Eau Claire while she was earning a Master’s Degree. In 1962 she started teaching in the Foreign Language Department at UWEC. She completed her PhD in German Literature at UW-Madison in 1976 and continued her career as a professor at UWEC until retiring in 1985.
