The outgoing Health Ombudsman said he was concerned the Life Esidimeni tragedy, where the Gauteng Department of Health paid out over R140 million in compensation to some families, was setting a bad precedent for the office.
The outgoing health ombudsman said that from the over 10,000 complaints about the country s healthcare system that he investigated across his 7-year-long term, more than half came from Gauteng.
Half of the complaints received by the office were reported in Gauteng, leading Malegapuru Makgoba to sound the alarm on the state of the province s healthcare sector.
